Question

Find the area of the triangle with coordinates A(-2, 1), B(3, 3) and C(1, -2).

Options:
A .   10 sq. units
B .   10.5 sq. units
C .   11 sq. units
D .   11.5 sq. units
Answer: Option B
:
B

Area of a triangle having vertices (x1,y1),(x2,y2) and (x3,y3)
=12[x1(y2y3)+x2(y3y1)+x3(y1(y2)]
Given, (x1,y1) = (-2, 1)

            (x2,y2) = (3, 3)

            (x3,y3) = (1, -2)
  =12[2(3+2)+3(21)+1(13)]=10.5

Since area is not a negative quantity, take the absolute value.

Thus, area of the given triangle = 10.5 sq. units.
