Question 61.

Find the difference between the median and the mode of the following data set:

1          6          45        4          33        12        19        6          56        25        13        9

  1.     12.5
  2.     12
  3.     6.5
  4.     6
 Discuss Question
Answer: Option C. -> 6.5
:
C

Arranged data set is:

1          4          6          6          9          12        13        19        25        33        45        56
Median: The middle most value after arranging the given data.
Here, the number of observations is 12, which is an even number. So, we take the average of the two observations in the middle to find the value of median.

Median = 12+132 = 12.5. (Mean of the 6th and 7th observation)
Mode: The observation that occurs most often in the data set.
We can find 6 two times in the data set. This is the most repeated value in the data set. The value of the mode is 6.
i.e., Mode = 6.
Difference between median and mode of the given data set = 12.5-6 = 6.5.

Question 62.

There are 50 students in a class and the average mark scored by the class in Maths is 65 out of 100. The total marks scored by all the students except Karan and Arjun is 3080. If the marks scored by Karan & Arjun are same. What is the mark scored by Arjun?

  1.     75
  2.     80
  3.     85
  4.     90
 Discuss Question
Answer: Option C. -> 85
:
C

Average  =Total marksTotal number of student

65=3080+Marks scored by Arjun+ Marks scored by Karan50.

Since marks scored by Arjun = Marks scored by Karan

Marks scored by Arjun + Marks scored by Karan =  2 × Marks scored by Arjun.

So, 65 × 50 = 3080 + 2 × Marks scored by Arjun.

So, marks scored by Arjun                                    =325030802=1702=85 marks.

Question 63.

There is a data set with 1000 observations. Out of these observations, the observation that occurs most frequently is 9, which occurs 13 times. After taking 20 more observations, it was observed that 13, which was not there in the observations before, occurred 19 out of 20 times and 9 occurred only 1 out of 20 times. What is the mode in these 1020 observations?

___
 Discuss Question
Answer: Option C. -> 85
:

In the 1000 observations, 9 will be the mode.

In 1020 observations, frequency of  9 = 13 + 1 = 14

In 1020 observations, frequency of 13 = 19

So, mode of the observations = 13.

Question 64.

Find the range of following set of integers:
-2 ,  5 ,  12,  -10,  0,  -9 ,  -13,  1,  4 ,  2 , 9, -8

  1.     25
  2.     -1
  3.     -19
  4.     19
 Discuss Question
Answer: Option A. -> 25
:
A
The difference between the highest and lowest observations is called range.
Largest integer = 12.
Smallest integer = -13.
Range = 12-(-13) = 25.
Question 65.

Find the mean of 9, 10, 8, 9, 12, 10. [2 MARKS]

 Discuss Question
Answer: Option A. -> 25
:

Formula: 1 Mark
Result: 1 Mark

Mean=Sum of all observationTotal number of observation

Mean=9+10+8+9+12+106=9.66.

The mean is 9.66.

Question 66.

Find the mode of 2, 14, 16, 12, 14, 14, 16, 14, 10, 14, 18, 14. [1 MARK]

 Discuss Question
Answer: Option A. -> 25
:
Given Data is: 2, 14, 16, 12, 14, 14, 16, 14, 10, 14, 18, 14.
Arranging the observations in the ascending order.
2, 10, 12, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 16, 16, 18.
Clearly, the most repeated observation is 14.
14 is mode.
Question 67.

Find the mean of first five multiples of 5.  [2 MARKS]

 Discuss Question
Answer: Option A. -> 25
:

Formula: 1 Mark
Solution: 1 Mark

First five multiples of 5 are 5,10,15, 20 and 25.

Mean=Sum of all observationTotal number of observation

Mean=5+10+15+20+255=15

Question 68.

Marks obtained by students out of 20 in a class test are written on the board. What is the range of the marks?

12 ,14 , (-1), (-6), 15, 0, 8, 2.  [2 MARKS]

 Discuss Question
Answer: Option A. -> 25
:

Formula: 1 Mark
Result: 1 Mark
Range is defined as the difference between the highest and the lowest observation.
Here, after arranging marks in ascending order : ( -6 ),( -1 ) , 0 , 2, 8 , 12 , 14 , 15.
Lowest observation: (-6)

Highest observation: 15
Range = Highest observation - Lowest observation
Range = 15 - (-6) = 21

Question 69.

The runs scored by 11 players in a cricket match are 12, 32, 43, 32, 12, 32, 12, 32, 36, 54,11. Find the mode of the runs scored by the players. [2 MARKS]

 Discuss Question
Answer: Option A. -> 25
:

Steps: 1 Mark
Result: 1 Mark
Given runs are, 12, 32, 43, 32, 12, 32, 12, 32, 36, 54,11.
Arranging the numbers in ascending order:
11, 12, 12, 12, 32, 32, 32, 32, 36, 43, 54.
Mode of a set of observations is the observation which occurs most often.
Clearly, here, 32 runs are scored by most of the batsman.
So, the mode of the observation is 32.

Question 70.

Given below are the weights of 9 different students of class 10th: 54 kg , 56 kg , 54 kg , 57 kg , 54 kg , 52 kg , 54 kg , 55 kg , 59 kg. Find the mode and median of the given observations.  [3 MARKS]

 Discuss Question
Answer: Option A. -> 25
:

Steps: 2 Marks
Result: 1 Mark
Given,
Weights of 9 different students : 54kg, 56kg , 54kg , 57kg , 54kg , 52kg , 54kg , 55kg , 59kg
Arranging the data in ascending order,
52kg, 54kg, 54kg, 54kg, 54kg, 55kg, 56kg, 57kg, 59kg
Median is the middle most observation of the given observations
Median = 54kg
Mode is the most repeated observation of the given observations
Clearly, 54kg is the most repeated  observation
 Mode =  54kg
