Question 31. Ram can type 50 words per minute. If the ratio of words typed by Rahul and Ram is 1 : 2, then Rahul can type _______ words per minute.
 Discuss Question

:
Given the ratio of words typed by Rahul to Ram = 1:2
Let the number of words that Rahul can type be x
12 = NumberofwordstypedbyRahulNumberofwordstypedbyRam
12 = NumberofwordstypedbyRahul50
The number of words typed by Rahul = 12 × Number of words typed by Ram
= 12 × 50 = 25
Rahul can type 25 words per minute.
Question 32. Mahibur paid an interest of Rs. 750 for 2 years on a sum of Rs. 4500 on simple interest. If the rate of interest is x13% p.a, then 'x' is ___.
 Discuss Question

:
Simple Interest=PRT100
Principle, P=4500.
Rate of Interest, R=x13.
Time, T=2.
750 =4500×R×2100
R =253
R = 813
Hence,x = 8.
Question 33. An architect drew a scaled down plan of a building. On the map, the dimensions of a room is written as 5cm × 4cm. If the scale used by him is, 2cm = 100km. What will be the actual dimensions of the room?
  1.    250m × 200m
  2.    250km × 200km
  3.    250cm × 200cm
  4.    2.50km × 20.0km
 Discuss Question
Answer: Option B. -> 250km × 200km
:
B
Given that, 2 cm = 100 km
Therefore, 1 cm is equivalent to 50 km.
Actual dimensions of the room = (5×50) km × (4×50) km = 250 km × 200 km
Question 34. Amita has 12 marbles and Reeta has 8 marbles. Reeta says that she has x/y times the marbles that Amita has, where x and y are co-prime numbers.
Then x + y =
___
 Discuss Question

:
Since 8 = 23× 12
Reeta has 23 times the marbles that Amita has
Therefore, x + y = 2 + 3 = 5
Question 35. Aju read a fact that bronze contains 88% copper and 12% tin. So, there will be ___ gms of copper in 200gms of bronze.
 Discuss Question

:
Given that 88% of bronze is copper.
88gms of copper is present in 100gms bronze.
Therefore, in 200gms bronze;
weight of copper = 2× 88 = 176gms
Question 36. We can compare any two quantities. (True/False)?
  1.    True
  2.    False
  3.    75%
  4.    65%
 Discuss Question
Answer: Option B. -> False
:
B
We can compare only two similar quantities.
Question 37. A survey shows that out of 40 students in a class, 30 students like studying Mathematics. That means ___% of students like studying Mathematics.
 Discuss Question

:
Percentage of students who like studying mathematics = noofstudentswholikemathstotalnoofstudents × 100 = 3040 x100 = 75%
Question 38. Convert the given decimals to percentage.  [2 MARKS]
a) 0.65   b) 2.1
 Discuss Question

:
Each option: 1 Mark
Given decimal is,
a) 0.65
=0.65×100%
=65×100100%=65%
b)2.1
=2.1×100%
=21×10010%=210%
Question 39. In a shop, there were Fanta, coca cola and sprite bottles in a ratio of 8 : 15 : 12 respectively. If the total number of Fanta bottles is 120, then find the total number bottles.  [3 MARKS]
In A Shop, There Were Fanta, Coca Cola And Sprite Bottles In...
 Discuss Question

:
Calculations: 1Mark
Steps: 1Mark
Answer: 1 Mark
Let the Fanta, Coca-Cola and Sprite bottles be 8x, 15x, 12x.
The total number of Fanta bottle is 120.
So, 8x = 120

x = 15
Then coca cola bottles =15×15=225
Sprite bottles =12×15=180.
So, the total number of bottle is 120 + 225 + 180 = 525.
Alternative Method:

Let 'x' be the total number of bottles.
Now, the bottles are in the ratio 8: 15: 12
The sum of these numbers = 8 + 15 + 12 = 35
The number of Fanta bottles = 120
Also number of Fanta bottles=835×x = 120
So, x=358×120=525
Hence the total number of bottles is 525.
Question 40. One day Rashi travelled 6 km whereas Soham travelled only 5000 m. What will be the ratio of their distances travelled?
[2 MARKS]
 Discuss Question

:
Units: 1Mark
Answer: 1Mark
Given that:
Rashi travelled 6 km.
Soham travelled 5000 m.
We have to find the ratio of their distance travelled.
We can only find the ratio if they have the same units.
First, we will convert both the distances to the same unit.
So, 6km=6×1000m=6000m.
Thus, the required ratio is:
6000 m : 5000 m
6:5
