The largest producer of gold in the world is
Options:
A .  Canada
B .  Russia
C .  Australia
D .  South Africa
Answer: Option C
Answer: (c)
The precious metal of gold is found on all continents except Antarctica, but to date, only about 170,000 tons of gold have been mined.
The 2011 list of countries by gold production in kilograms is:
China (355,000);
Australia (270,000);
United States of America (237,000);
Russia (200,000); and
South Africa (190,000).
Since the 1880s, South Africa has been the source for a large proportion of the world’s gold supply, with about 50% of all gold ever produced having come from South Africa.
In 2007 China (with 276 tonnes) overtook South Africa as the world’s largest gold producer, the first time since 1905 that South Africa had not been the largest.
