GETTING TO KNOW PLANTS MCQs
:
A
Venation is the arrangement of veins and veinlets in the lamina of a leaf. It is of 2 types:
∙ Parallel venation
∙ Reticulate venation
In the given figure, veins are parallel to the midrib as well as to one another. This type of venation is known as parallel venation.
:
A
Petals are the colourful parts of a flower. They help in attracting insects for pollination. Stamen is the male reproductive part of a flower and anther is a prt of it. Pistil is the female part of a flower.
:
A
∙ Transpiration is a process by which excess water is lost from aerial parts of the plants, mainly leaves. This creates a pressure with the help of which water moves up in the plants.
∙ Photosynthesis is the process through which green plants prepare their food in the presence of sunlight.
∙ Absorption is the process through which plant roots absorb water and minerals from the soil.
∙ Respiration is a process by which energy is produced in living organisms.
:
C
Plants prepare their food by a process called photosynthesis. In this process, plants take in carbon dioxide and water and convert it into glucose and oxygen. The food or glucose is stored in different parts of the plant as starch while oxygen is liberated.
:
D
∙ Plants with stem branching closer to the base of the stem are called shrubs. They also have a hard stem. Example: China rose.
∙ Creepers and climbers have weak stems. Creepers spread on the ground while climbers climb on a support.
∙ Herbs have green and tender stem.
:
A
Pistil is the female reproductory part of a plant. It includes stigma, style and ovary. Ovules are structures present inside the ovary which contains the female gametes or the egg cells. Pollen grains land on the stigma during pollination. Stigma is connected to the ovary by the style.
:
A
The arrangement of veins on the lamina of a leaf is called venation. When this arrangement is net or mesh-like on both sides of the midrib, the venation is called reticulate. If the veins are arranged parallely to each other, then the venation is called parallel venation.
:
B
∙ Creepers are plants that have weak stems because of which they spread on the ground. Eg: Pumpkin and watermelon.
∙ Climbers, like creepers, have a weak stem but they take support of structures like poles and trees and climb on them unlike creepers.
∙ Trees are very tall. They have brown, thick and hard stem.
∙ Plants with green and tender stems are called herbs.
:
D
Ovules are small bead like structures inside the ovary of flower. Ovules contain the female gamete or the egg cell. These structures develop into the seeds after fertilization. Carpel is the female reproductive part of a flower. Stamen is male reproductive part of a flower. Sepals protect the bud of a flower.
