GETTING TO KNOW PLANTS MCQs
:
C
∙ The part of the plant shown in the picture is called leaf.
∙ The leaf is the part primarily responsible for making food for the plant. Plants are capable of making their own food through the process known as photosynthesis.
:
A
∙ Tap roots are the root systems found in dicotyledonous plants. They have a main central root that runs deep into the soil. The main root has several lateral roots that are smaller in size. Eg: carrot.
∙ In contrast, fibrous roots have no main central roots. It has a bunch of smaller roots which do not run deep into the soil. Grasses have fibrous roots.
:
C
∙ The root is the part of a plant that typically lies below the surface of the soil and anchors the plant.
∙ Stems hold the structures like branches which contains leaves, flowers and seeds.
∙ Leaves perform photosynthesis and synthesise the food required by the plants.
∙ Flowers are the reproductive structures of a plant.
:
C
In many plants, flowers are referred to as the reproductive parts. The flowers consists of male reproductive structures called stamens and a female reproductive structure called pistil. Stamen consists of two parts- anther and filament. Pistil consists of three parts- stigma, style and ovary.
:
B
The stem is the part of the plant responsible for conducting water. Within the stem, there is a structure called xylem which forms a network of tubes which carry water from the roots to all parts of the plant.
:
A
Sunlight is required for the plants to perform photosynthesis. Plants produce food from carbon dioxide and water only in the presence of sunlight. So, if kept in dark, the plants will not be able to perform photosynthesis and will eventually die.
:
A
∙ Plants with green and tender stems are called herbs.
∙ Climbers have very weak stem, they take support of nearby structures and climb up.
∙ Creepers, like climbers, have weak stem but they spread on the ground.
∙ Trees are tall and they have hard and thick stem.
