Gonorrhea is caused by a bacterium called Neisseria, spreading through sexual contact, unclean public toilets as well as underwear. It often affects the fallopian tubes and cervix in women as well as the urethra in both sexes. Common complaints are burning micturition, along with purulent discharge from the genitals, and painful external genitalia. Other common sites of infection are the pharynx and the eyes. Spread from mother to child is also possible during delivery.
