The Damodar valley coal occurring in the Damuda series of the Lower Gondwana rocks is noted for exceptionally rich coal deposits. About 75 per cent of India’s coal is mined from this valley. There are several coalfields of which Jharia, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Chandrapura and Karanpura are the premier producers.
