Question

What is the mass percentage of hydrogen in the H2O molecule?

Options:
A .   5.55%
B .   11.11%
C .   33.33%
D .   22.22%
Answer: Option B
:
B

Let us consider 1 molecule of H2O

Mass of hydrogen in 1 molecule of H2O = 2g

Mass of oxygen in 1 molecule of H2O = 16g

Therefore, total mass of 1 molecule of H2O = 2+16 = 18 g

Now percentage of hydrogen is given by:

= Mass of hydrogen in 1 molecule of H2OTotal mass of 1  molecule of H2O

 = 218×100=11.11%
