The first part of the figure has a circledivided into8parts and 5partsof it are shaded.

∴ Fraction = \frac{5}{8}

The second part of the figure has a circledivided into8parts and 7parts of it are shaded.

∴ Fraction = \frac{7}{8}

What Fraction In Total Do The Shaded Regions Represent?

Sum = \frac{5}{8} + \frac{7}{8} = \frac{5 + 7}{8} = \frac{12}{8}

But,

\frac{12}{8} = \frac{12 \div 4}{8 \div 4} = \frac{3}{2} .

∴

The required sum is

\frac{3}{2} .
