Question
Calculate the pressure of one mole of nitrogen gas in a 10 L cylinder at 50C using the Van der Waal's equation.Also find the value of ideal gas pressure.(Van der Waal's constants a and b for nitrogen are 1.4L2 atm mol2 and 0.04 L2mol1 respectively) .
Options:
A .  2.18 atm
B .  2.965 atm
C .  2.652 atm
D .  None of these
Answer: Option D
:
D
From Van der Waal's equation ,
p+aV2Vb=RT
We get ,
p+1.4100(100.04)=0.0821×323p=2.648atm
From ideal gas equation, we have
p=RTV=0.0821×32310=2.652
Pideal=2.648atmPreal=2.652atm
