Question

A block kept at rest on a horizontal table is pushed by two horizontal forces, one towards north and other towards south, which are equal in magnitude. What can be said about the motion of the block?

Options:
A .   The block will remain stationary.
B .   The block will move upwards.
C .   The block will move towards east.
D .   The block will move towards west.
Answer: Option A
:
A
As equal forces are acting on the block in opposite directions, the resultant force is zero. If there is no net force on the block, the state of motion of the block will not change and it will remain stationary.
