Shrubs usually have woody stems above the ground. They can be clearly distinguished from herbs and trees because of their woody stems and their size. They are bushy in nature and are relatively shorter in height than a tree.

The organisms which prepare their own food are called autotrophs. Green plants are examples of autotrophs. 

Potato is a special kind of stem, which grows underground. It has buds called ‛eye’ on its surface. Any part of the potato with an eye or bud can grow into a new plant.

In some plants, roots are modified so as to help them store food. Such roots are called modified roots. Carrot is a modified root.
