R, (R + R) = 2 R, (R + R) = 2 R

and R are in parallel
Hence effective resistance is given by

\frac{1}{R_{e f f}} = \frac{1}{R} + \frac{1}{2 R} + \frac{1}{2 R} + \frac{1}{R}

which gives

R_{e f f} = \frac{R}{3}
