Question
A body is moving from rest under constant acceleration and let S1 be the displacement in the first (p1) seconds and S2 be the displacement in the first p seconds. The displacement in (p2p+1)th second will be
Options:
A .  S1+S2
B .  S1S2
C .  S1−S2
D .  S1S2
Answer: Option A
:
A
From S=ut+12at2
S1=12a(p1)2 andS2=12ap2 [As u = 0]
We have
S1+S2=a2[2p22p+1]
Using the expression for distance traveled in nthsecond
Sn=u+a2(2n1)
S(p2p+1)th=a2[2(p2p+1)1]=a2[2p22p+1]
It is clear that S(p2p+1)th=S1+S2
