Question

If `2^(x-1) + 2^(x+1)` = 1280, then find the value of `x` .

Options:
A .  9
B .  10
C .  11
D .  12
Answer: Option A

Sol.          `2^(x - 1) + 2^(x + 1)` = 1280

`hArr         2^(x  -1) (1 + 2^2) = 1280`

 `hArr        2^(x - 1) = 1280/5`

`hArr        2^(x - 1) = 256  = 2^8`

`hArr        x - 1 = 8`

`hArr         x = 9`

Hence  x = 9.
