Based on climatic conditions, crops are divided into kharif and rabi crops.
Kharif crops: The kharif crops need hot weather and large amounts of rainfall to grow. These are sown with onset of monsoon in June and harvested around the month of October.
Examples of kharif crops include jowar, rice, soyabean, paddy, maize, cotton, etc.
Rabi crops: While some crops are sown in winter season from november to april. These are not affected by rainfall patterns. They require warm temperature to germinate and cold weather to grow.
Example of rabi crops include wheat, gram, peas, mustard, etc.
