Question
By successfully replicating the results obtained a couple of months ago, particle physicists have once again proved that neutrinos travel faster than light. If the results announced two months ago shocked and stunned scientists all over the world, a sense of disbelief has set in after the team of scientists reconfirmed the results. The experiment would be conducted some more times to make sure of the correctness of the result.A. Nothing can travel faster than light.B. Albert Einstein's 1905 special theory of relativity which states that nothing can travel faster than light, may be rechecked.C. Result obtained in just one experiment is not a conclusive to overthrow a theory believed by many.D. There was an error in the result obtained in the first experiment.E. The discovery of the speed of neutrinos is an accidental discovery.Which of the statements A, B, C, D and E mentioned above represents an inference that can be drawn from the above statement?
Options:
A .  A
B .  B
C .  C
D .  D
E .  E
Answer: Option C

The reason for the shock and disbelief among the scientists is their belief that nothing can travel faster than light. Hence, (A) is an assumption.

Since it is proved twice that there are particles which travel faster than light, the scientists may check the correctness of the long held Einstein's theory that nothing can travel faster than light. Hence, (B) is a possible effect.

It is said that the test would be conducted some more times to confirm the result. From this it can be inderstood that result from one experiment cannot be taken as conclusive evidence. Hence, (C) is an inference.

There is no information weather the first experiment is conducted properly or not. Hence, it can neither be concluded nor is an assumption that there was an error in the first experiment. Hence, (D) is out of context.

It is not clear whether the experiment is done with the intention of finding the speed of neutrinos or it is an accidental discovery. Hence, (E) is out of context.

Statement (C) is an inference.
