Question

If the measured value of the radius is 1.5% larger , the percentage error ( correct to one decimal place ) made in calculating the volume of a sphere is :

Options:
A .  2.1
B .  3.2
C .  4.6
D .  5.4
Answer: Option C

Le the correct radius be 100 cm. Then , measured radius = 101.5 cm.

`:.`  Error in volume  = `4/3 pi [ ( 101.5)^3 - (100)^3] cm^3`

                                = ` 4/3 pi (1045678.375 - 1000000) cm^3`

                               = ` (4/3 xx pi xx 45678.375) cm^3`

`:.`     Error  % = `((4/3 pi (45678.375))/(4/3 pi (100 xx 100 xx 100)) xx 100)`% =  4.56% = 4.6 % ( app)
