Question

Find the minimum value of the expression, P = 2x+1 + 1/ [4(x/2 + 3/2)] , given that x is real

Options:
A .   ½
B .   1
C .   ¼
D .   2
E .   ¾
Answer: Option B
:
B

The expression can be rewritten as

2x+1 + 2 -2 (x/2 +3/2)

= 2x+1 + 2 -x-3

Using the concept of AM ≥ GM

Therefore, the min value occurs when both the numbers are same. In that case 2(x+1) = 2-(x+3). X = -2. Thus the number = ½.so ½ +1/2 = 1.
