Question

A rectangular water tank is 80 m x 40 m  . Water flows into through a pipe 40 sq. cm at the opening at a speed of 10 km / hr . By how much , the water level  will  rise in the tank in half an hour ?

Options:
A .  `3/2` cm
B .  `4/9` cm
C .  `5/8` cm
D .  None of these
Answer: Option C

Length  of water column flown in 1 min. = `((10 xx 1000)/(60)) m  = 500/3  m`.

Volume flown per minute = `(500/3 xx (40)/(100 xx 100)) m^3 =  2/3 m^3`.

Volume flown  in half an hour = `(2/3 xx 30) m^3   = 20 m^3`.

`:.`      Rise in water level = `((20)/(40 xx 80)) m = (1/160 xx 100) cm = 5/8 cm`.
