Question

A hemisphere and a cone have equal bases . If their height are also equal, then the ratio of their  curved surface will be :

Options:
A .  1 : 2
B .  2 : 1
C .  1 : `sqrt(2)`
D .  `sqrt(2)` : 1
Answer: Option D

Let the radius of each be R  Height of hemisphere,   H = R

So , height of cone = height of hemisphere =  R.

Slant height of cone = `sqrt(R^2 + R^2) = sqrt(2R)`

(Curved surface area of hemisphere)/ (Curved surface area of cone)

=` (2pi R^2)/(pi R xx sqrt(2R)) = sqrt(2) : 1`
