Question

A cylindrical rod of iron whose height is eight times its radius is melted and cast into spherical balls each of half  the radius of the cylinder . The number of spherical balls is :

Options:
A .  12
B .  16
C .  24
D .  48
Answer: Option D

Let he radius of the cylindrical rod be r.

Then , height of the rod = 8 r and radius of one ball = `r/2`

`:.`       Number of balls = `(pi xx r^2 xx 8 r)/(4/3 pi xx (r/2)^3) `

             = `((8 xx 8 xx 3)/(4))` = 48
