Question

If the radius of a circle is doubled its area is increased by :

Options:
A .  100 %
B .  200 %
C .  300 %
D .  400 %
Answer: Option C

Let the original radius be R cm . New radius = 2R

Original area = `piR^2`,   New area = ` pi(2R)^2 = 4 pi R^2`

Increase in area  = `(4 pi R^2 - pi R^2) =  3 pi R^2`

Increase % = `((3 pi R^2)/(pi R^2) xx 100)`% =  300 %
