In client-server architecture, the client requests a  connection to the server by sending SYN (synchronize) message. Responding these requests, server sends the acknowledgement (SYN-ACK) to the client. SYN flood is a kind of denial-of-service attack in which an attacker sends a succession of SYN requests to consume enough server resources to make the system unresponsive to legitimate traffic.
