Let x and y be the bases of smallest two triangles.

(\frac{y}{8}) = (\frac{8}{16})

; y=4.

(\frac{x}{y}) = (\frac{x}{4}) = (\frac{3}{8})

; x=1.5.
Thus area of shaded region:

\frac{1}{2}

((4*8)-(1.5*3))=13.75
