Based on the figure given below which of the following statements is not correct?
Options:
A .  Movement of solvent molecules will take place from chamber A to B
B .  Movement of solute also will take place from A to B
C .  Presence of a semipermeable membrane is a prerequisite for this process to occur
D .  The direction and rate of osmosis depends on both the pressure gradient and concentration gradient
Answer: Option B : B Solute cannot move across a semi-permeable membrane unless facilitated through channels or special carrier proteins. Therefore only B is incorrect. All the other statements are true for osmosis- solvent molecule that is water moves from the region of higher water potential to the region of lower water potential. Osmotic movement is also dependent on pressure gradient.
