Question
A cuboidal water tank contains 216 liters is water. Its depth is 1/3 of its length and breadth is ½ of 1/3 of the difference between length and depth. The length of the tank?
Options:
A .  2dm
B .  6dm
C .  18dm
D .  72dm
Answer: Option C

Volume of tank = 216 litres = 216 d m3
Let the length of the tank be x dm, then
Depth = x/3 dm and breadth = 1/6 of(x “ x/3)dm
=(1/6 x 2x/3)d m = x/9 d m
 X × x/9 × x =216
=> x3 = 216 x 27 = 63 x 33
=> x =(6 x 3) = 18 d m
Hence length of the tank = 18 dm
