Vedic Maths trick to solve the boat and stream .

A man takes 7 hours to row a boat 10 km in downstream of a river and 6 to cover a distance of 4 km upstream . Find Man's speed in still water and the speed of current.

Formula for Speed

Speed = Distance / Time


STEP 1 :

speed in downstream (A) = 10 / 7 = 1.4285714285714 km/h

STEP 2 :

speed in upstream (B) = 4 / 6 = 0.66666666666667 km/h

STEP 3 :

man's speed in still water = 1 / 2*(A+B)

= 1 / 2* (1.4285714285714 + 0.66666666666667)

= 1.047619047619 km/h

STEP 4 :

speed of current = 1 / 2*(A-B)

= 1 / 2* (1.4285714285714 - 0.66666666666667)

= 0.38095238095238 km/h

Man's speed in still water is 1.047619047619 km/h and the speed of current 0.38095238095238 km/h
